Every week the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) takes in whipped, starved, injured, ill and neglected horses and donkeys.

Over the past two years they have rescued over 80 miserable donkeys and horses from the hands of abusers. Some have been rehabilitated and suitable alternative homes have been found for them. Some could not endure the pain, collapsed and the Society was forced to redeem them from their agony and put them to sleep humanely. Some are still in the sheltered facility.

The rescue, seizure and rehabilitation procedures, as well as finding a suitable responsible solution for the horses and donkeys saved from the hands of their abusers, have cost the Society a great deal of money and caused heavy budgetary deficits. Yet the Society is dedicated to continuing its intensive efforts to prevent cruelty to these animals which sadly live in the streets of Jaffa and other parts of the country.

The Society, headed by chairperson Hilma Shmoshkovits, is appealing to the public for urgent financial assistance to help them continue to stop the suffering of these wonderful large animals.
