New  immigrants and veteran ESRAites mingle at a coffee afternoon.

With the holidays behind us, the first of the monthly ESRA olim coffee afternoons took place on Wednesday November 4 at a private home in Raanana. It was well attended by new immigrants as well as veteran ESRA members.

Juliet Rostowsky, the ESRA career counselor, discussed "A new world of work" and explained that the adjustments the new immigrant makes in the workplace involve not just learning Hebrew but adjusting to a new culture. Networking and talking to people are important in the job search and it helps to be flexible to meet the demands of the new work environment.  She also emphasized that there are some positive factors aiding work seekers in Israel today, such as globalization, the privatization of state utilities and facilities and the ability to work from home, thus enabling workers to cope with multiple assignments.

Upcoming speakers are: a family doctor on staying healthy in Israel, and one of the passengers on the Exodus who will speak about her experiences.
