A bargain? That’s why I’m having ‘second’ thoughts

This is a decision only for a keen shopper.  Today, everything is offered to the public as a “BARGAIN”. More often than not, with a little bit of effort or with a good memory, you can find the same item sold even cheaper, and not as a bargain.   Many shops / chains, for example, in their brochures often offer goods at “the second item for half price” or “the second item at a much lower price”, but a little bit of checking can often reveal that elsewhere you can buy just one item for the same price as half the cost of the purchase for two items. Another complaint against this advertising by various chains is the very use of the phrase “the second item for half price” when no mention is made of the price of the first item!

Why I’ve Washed My Hands Of Wash Powders

It is almost a year now since I started using Colon Compact Strips instead of the normal washing machine powders.  It is so much simpler to remove a single strip from a small thin packet, which takes no room on the shelf, than the business of opening and closing a heavy packet of powder and replacing same.  As my usual machine washing is never more than 4 or 5 kg, one small strip is sufficient.  I have noticed recently that other companies using these soap strips are now available on the market locally.

Unreadable Medical Instructions

I know I am not getting younger but my eye sight is good with my current glasses and I usually do not need glasses for reading.  So, why do I find problems reading the instructions on boxes and tubes of medicines I have to use?   My latest problem was a container of B12 drops which has all the instructions on the box itself which I had trouble reading even with a magnifying glass and there are no instructions in the box.  Finally, with the aid of the magnifying glass, I did manage to identify the name of the producer and their phone number and I telephoned to double check the instructions and to complain about the lettering. They said they would check my complaints and be in contact with me.  To the best of my knowledge, all medical products have to have the name of the supplier and their phone number printed on the container.  My recommendation is: use it if necessary.

How to stop your spuds from sprouting

I came to the conclusion some time back that potatoes in Israel are of a completely different quality from those I knew in England.  Most of the supermarkets here sell potatoes in prepacked quantities and those that you do not use within a few days start to sprout and very shortly you can already plant them in your garden or flower box.  Whilst reminiscing recently with a friend about food when I was a child, I remarked that most fruit and vegetables were sold and delivered to our home. My mother used to buy a half a sack of potatoes which she kept closed in the food pantry which to my memory had no window just ventilation.   Remembering this, I purchased a fresh package of potatoes removed them from their nylon packaging and transferred them to a large paper bag and put the bag on the floor in one of my kitchen cupboards where it is dark unless the door is opened. Well, it is already over a month and so far not one potato in the paper bag has started to sprout.

Bezeq

We still have two Bezeq lines, one of which was causing us problems.  When I rang to complain, I was asked to give my cellular phone number for them to ring me back.  Problem – my smart phone was not working, which has made me wonder how those people who do not have a smart phone are supposed to cope in this “modern world”.  Why is it supposed that everyone is up-to-date? The very fact of still having a normal Bezeq line should say something to Bezeq.
