Cooking demonstration by David Levy

Twenty nine people hurried to the residence of Rika and Willy Meyerowitz in Netanya for a fun morning. The aroma of Indian spices greeted everyone at the door.

David is a new immigrant who owned a successful restaurant in Manchester in England. With his vast knowledge of food, he gave us tips on how to save time cooking and to cook tidily. With a great sense of humor he cooked and entertained us for over three hours.

He explained that curry is a flavored dish from the Far East, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand and China. It is a misconception that everything that is spicy in Indian food is “curry”. Curry simply means “sauce”. Indian cuisine is very diverse in different regional states within India. Exotic spices are used for their special flavor and aroma. Food can be spiced to your taste: Mild, Madras or Vindaloo (hot).

Everyone received recipes of the food David prepared: basic curry sauce, Keema curry (minced beef and peas), Aloo Ghobi (potato and cauliflower) beef curry and Tandoori chicken.

The morning ended with a wonderful tasting session, which turned out to be a light lunch. We all left feeling good and with a delicious taste in the mouth.

Thank you David for donating all the ingredients and your time and for al the work you put into giving us such an enjoyable morning. We look forward to your next cooking demonstration.
