C.B. Davies (left) and Yisrael Cohen listen while singer Dena Davis entertains

The difference being real live performers -and what a difference it made.

Our gracious Modiin hosts were Ellen and Harold Davies, and their theme: ‘There is nothing like a Musical’.  To a full house they introduced us to their son, known to one and all as C.B. and his delightful wife Dena, who sang gems for us from some of the best-loved musicals dating from the 1950s to the present time.

Dena has been involved with the Jerusalem musical theater since 2007.  Debuting in Peter Pan (JEST) she has subsequently appeared in many productions both in front of the footlights and backstage doing customs and makeup, but her first love is to sing.  Dena and C.B. met in the theater while he was acting in HMS Pinafore (Encore) and she was doing the makeup for the show.

C.B. Davies’s musical theater debut was in Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory many years ago but he says his real start came in the 2011-2012 production of HMS Pinafore (Encore).  He later traveled to New York and studied musical theater and acting at, among other schools, the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Art.  On his return to Israel in 2015 he immediately jumped back into the English theater scene and can be seen in The Producers (Israel Musicals) which is currently performing all around Israel.

An additional and unexpected treat was when they introduced us to their friend, Edward Yisrael Cohen, visiting from overseas, who sang two songs in his strong rich voice.  Edward discovered his love of theater at the age of 14. However, it was almost a decade later that he had the opportunity to explore his passion.  He arrived in Israel in 2010 and shortly thereafter was cast in the title role of Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, which he followed up with many more leading roles in a variety of productions.  While in Israel he studied voice with one of the lead sopranos of the Tel Aviv Opera.  He moved to Canada in 2015, where he co-founded a new theater company, Snow Globe Theater.

As an encore they sang, appropriately, Good Night, from the Sound of Music and it truly was a very good night for the audience in attendance.
