Breathing new life into something dormant for a long time is no easy task - but that's exactly what is happening, with success, to the ESRA College in Netanya. Many remember the heyday of the college and the absorbing lectures which drew enthusiastic audiences.

ESRA Netanya has set itself a target: to get the college on its feet again and to provide an interesting series of lectures in English for as many people as possible. The series will cover a wide spectrum of tastes so that there really is something for everyone to hear, learn and enjoy.

This is a summary of the first series of the topics to whet your appetite for the second series:

*Mikhail Baryshnikov - Guy Baum told the fascinating story of one of Russia's most famous defectors who became a true American idol. The film clips shown showed us the magic of this great dancer.

*Giselle - another lecture by Guy Baum centered on this most classical of ballet masterpieces.

*The Musical Film - Ron Fogel swept over 80 years of musical film history with film clips of our most-loved film memories.

*The Chef in Films - another of Ron Fogel's lectures proved to be a very popular and tasty subject.

*The Longest Hatred - the inimitable Freda Keet gave a detailed history of the plague of anti-Semitism, while her second lecture entitled Silent or Silenced was based on the lives and writings of three of our greatest Jewish women poets - Rachel, Hannah Senesh and Leah Goldberg.

Our very sincere thanks to George Dubin and the Absorption Department of Netanya Municipality for recognizing a need in the English speaking community and for letting us use the hall in appreciation of the work ESRA is doing in Netanya.

We also thank you, the very supportive public, whose participation is allowing us to put more and more into our many projects in Netanya.

The second series started on January 17. We are trying very hard to get the word out about our lecture series – please tell as many people as possible.
