ESRA embroidered mezzuza cases donated to Benji’s Home

An anonymous donor, a friend of ESRA and of The Benji Hillman Foundation, has donated 75 mezzuza cases from ESRA’s Ethiopian Embroidery project to Benji’s Home in Raanana. Scheduled to open at the end of 2012, this home is for lone combat soldiers and was built in memory of Benji Hillman, a major in the elite Egoz Unit, who was killed in the Second Lebanon War in July 2006.

In a letter to the donor, Ruth Rurka, Benji’s aunt and one of the founders and activists of the home, wrote:
“The mezzuza cases are so beautiful! Colorful, full of life and so carefully made. Many, many thanks. When you suggested that we use these cases in HaBayit shel Benji, it seemed so “right”. Two community related organizations dovetailing for the benefit of all. Your donation of these mezzuza cases is appreciated by us all…It is hard to believe that Benji was killed six years ago, but his name and legacy will live on in HaBayit shel Benji. Thank you for being part of our dream”.

ESRA has great members and both ESRA and Benji’s Home are wonderful organizations.
