Center flooded twice as hailstones the size of rocks rained down

The day the heavens opened is a day the people of Raanana will never forget. In a matter of minutes, the city was deluged with water which left devastation in its path – properties and businesses flooded. They included ESRA’s Beit Fisher office and hall.  For days, people’s lives were knocked off course, both at home and at work, as they struggled without electricity and other amenities.

Here are examples of the devastation caused by the ferocious storms. . at the Chimes occupational Rehabilitation Center in Hamovil Street, Kfar Saba, in the heart of the industrial area. At the time of the flooding, there were 115 people inside – most of them mentally handicapped adults – plus staff. The building was flooded twice on two mornings within a few days of each other, and the damage included soaked goods, collapsed ceilings, water-damaged cupboards.

Communication and electricity were cut off for several days. In the Center’s yard, uprooted cypress and pine trees fell onto fences, preventing the passage of cars. Center employee Yael Israeli can be seen wading through muddy water trying to get into work from flooded Hamovil Street. Also pictured is one of the hailstones which rained down– as hard and as heavy as a rock.

Photos submitted by the Center’s director Sheli Angel.
