We are excited to announce that the Self Help Organizations in Israel directory is now published on the ESRAmagazine website: http://esramagazine.com/self-help/.

A link to the directory can be found at the end of the Categories line on the top right-hand side of the home page.

This comprehensive directory which was created and developed by ETZA – Israel Self Help Center, with 547 listings, provides information about organizations/groups that support a wide range of problems, both personal and general. The scope covers organizations relating to Addictions, Bereavement, Disabilities, Health, Older People, Sexual Identity, Women and many many others.

These groups were initiated by people who are coping or have coped with a particular problem. They joined up with other people in the same condition, and shared information and coping strategies. Together they gathered information, formed a support group, created services and acted to ensure their rights and improve their quality of life.

For example, in the category “Bereavement” you will find an organization called Anashim BeAdom. You will see a brief description of the goals of the group, in this case, “increasing road safety, improving the standard of driving, decreasing slaughter on the roads, progressive driving license program and memorialization”, and the target audience is families of victims of road accidents and anyone who is interested. You will also find full contact details for the organization.

Another example under “Older People” is Hotline for the Aged. The description reads “Eran maintains a hotline dedicated to the needs of Israel's elderly, among whom are Holocaust survivors”, and here too, full contact details are provided.

The site also has a useful SEARCH option. If you are searching for a particular organization or group you will probably find it by entering the name in the search box. Alternately, if you enter a keyword, for example “aged” in the search box, you will find a list of all the organizations relating to the aged, wherever they are listed – under Older People, Immigrants, Violence or Other Organizations.

If you are looking for information about any personal or health issue, or indeed any other problem, search this Directory of Self Help Organizations/Groups. You might find a group of people with the same problem as yours with whom you can connect.

There are also governmental and public services that are listed under Other Organizations, such as the ministries of Social Affairs or Health, Shatil, Civil Rights Association, and so many more.

And finally, if you know of any self-help group/organization which is not on this list, or know of any changes that should be made to an existing listing, please send us the information, which will be updated in this directory.

To contact us with regard to the organizations directory, please email esra.self.help@gmail.com.

We hope that this new addition to the ESRAmagazine website will provide valuable help and support to many of our readers. So why not open the link and see for yourself:
