What do we have?

Eight students living in three apartments in the neighborhood.

23 children who receive six hours of help a week. They are arranged into six groups with average grades of fifty percent and one “excellence” group. A student helps these neighborhood children who come to the community center. In addition, all the children have one joint social activity once in two weeks.

How do we plan continuing?

At present the neighborhood children are being given the tools for self-learning by the students whose presence has improved the standard of teaching for the children.

We are in constant contact with the school and the community center.

In order to make a connection with the families in the neighborhood, the students have started to visit the children in their family surroundings for one lesson during the week. This month we are planning a sports day with parents and children with the help of the Wingate Institute, and also a coffee evening.

The process of enrolling students for next year has begun. Our goal is to interview 30 students, 12 of whom will be chosen. In two years’ time we hope to widen the project to other disadvantaged neighborhoods.
