FORMER Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ariel Kerem, was ESRA’s guest speaker at the Kfar Saba Open House on May 4. He spoke about the many aspects of Ethiopian history and culture and of the reasons behind the ongoing poverty, the ethnic wars and the problematic climate and soil.

More pointedly, after a specific question from a member of the audience, he elaborated on the social relationship between the Ethiopian Jews and the Falashmura, both in Ethiopia and in Israel, which for many was disconcerting. The lecture was accompanied by beautiful slides of Ethiopia, the personnel with whom he worked and various family members who visited while he was stationed there.

ESRA holds special activities on the first Sunday of every month in the clubhouse on Nachshon Street. Come early for coffee and cookies and to get a seat; the room fills up quickly. Events are posted in the magazine’s “Date Line”.
