Tutors needed at an English summer camp for teens

ESRA members are helping community-minded Sderot teens set up and conduct a one-week English summer camp for 100 sixth graders in preparation for their transition to the local six- year high school.

The teenagers belong to an organization called the Sderot Young Leaders. The SYL was founded at the height of the rocketing and is operated by the teenagers themselves. These young leaders are the strongest students in the high school. They believe that there is life after the rockets and have pledged to keep improving themselves while volunteering to improve their community. They have worked hard to become conversant in English and are confident that they can transmit their knowledge to younger students.

Herb Levine, an ex-American, who has been mentoring SYL since its inception, has been coming one day each week to prepare the group. Herb will ensure that any ESRA member who has the teaching skills and the will to help can have a meaningful experience.

To learn more about the SYL and to find out how you can get involved in this unique project, contact Herb at 050 403 6038.  email hhlevine@gmail.com
