ESRA is currently in the process of establishing a branch in Jerusalem led by Sue Schneider (formerly an EFL lecturer at Bar Ilan University, the Open University and the David Yellin College of Education) and Dina Raveh (formerly of the Dept of Life Sciences at Ben Gurion University of the Negev).

Some of the traditional ESRA projects we hope to start in Jerusalem include:

■Preschool activities at day care centers

■English tutoring of high school Bagrut students

■Social activities for newcomers

■Support for after-school clubs run by the Jerusalem municipality

■Befriending, particularly of elderly people who are housebound

■Bereavement support Additional projects being explored include:

■Demonstration project in aquaponics (sustainable closed culture of fish and organic veggies). This is taking shape at a high school for fringe youth.

■Involvement in a new, innovative project to assist the blind

■Grandparents on Loan

■Integration of high school students who volunteer in the framework of their schools

■Volunteer work with the elderly for teenagers We need you to volunteer for our projects. If you wish to become involved and have any further suggestions of what you would like to do and/or to receive updates please send your email to either:

Join our volunteers at the Bet Hatzayar school plant nursery, Rehov Kaf-Tet B’November on Monday mornings at 9:00 a.m.  Help transplant seedlings, water plants, set up the aquaponics system, etc.

Or help set up the aquaponics system:

Or escort the students to a 3-hour plant sale. The income from sale of the pot plants provides pocket money for the students.
