ESRA is truly a unique organization. Run just about entirely by volunteers, its magazine started 33 years ago as two printed sheets of information dropped into post boxes bimonthly, informing English speakers of Herzliya of local activities and opportunities which may interest them. These two pages of printed information have evolved into a high-class glossy magazine of 108 pages which is sent to members of ESRA all over Israel, and even to a number of international supporters. Wherever possible, these magazines are still hand-delivered by an army of volunteers in each area, all in all over 400 volunteer postmen. 

A few months ago Cecil Ross, a resident of Beth Protea, the retirement home in Herzliya for Southern Africans and other English speakers, was approached to form a small committee to assist in the sorting, addressing and packing of a few thousand magazines that cannot be hand-delivered.  With David and Shirley Bild in tow, a small team was quickly formed, and with Esther Kunda, Nettie Fish and Leon and Pat Lewis willing to lend a hand, they are now in action, assisted by Neville Friedland, a long time magazine volunteer. This latest branch of ESRA volunteers is diligently sorting, counting, addressing and packaging magazines and getting them ready for the post office to send on.  They have willingly offered a few hours of their time over one or two mornings to help when help is needed, and the organization is so grateful to have found this co-operative group of valuable workers to form our ESRA MAGAZINE Postal Depot.
