Lady Cosgrove: Told fascinating stories

ESRA Herzliya is very happy to report on an extremely successful and interesting talk given recently by Lady Hazel Cosgrove CBE, the first woman to be appointed a Senator of the Court of Justice, a judge of Scotland’s Supreme Court.

It was hosted in a private home in Herzliya Pituach, being part of the series currently being presented locally called ‘Getting to Know your Neighbor’.

Lady Cosgrove regaled an enthusiastic audience with fascinating stories of her own life achievements from humble Jewish origins in Glasgow to the heights of the male-dominated legal profession.

She insisted on being addressed as ‘Your Ladyship’ instead of the traditional formal ‘Your Lordship’; no mean achievement when this also meant the provision of additional facilities for the female sex!

Lady Cosgrove spoke about several of the interesting cases she had presided over and mentioned the numerous positions she had the honor to hold. The audience was held spell-bound with admiration.

Lady Cosgrove is now retired but is recalled to assist in the Scottish courts when there is a need for additional judges.

She and her husband have family in Israel and maintain a home in Herzlyia Pituach.

It was an exceptionally thought-provoking evening, one which will linger for a long time in our memories.
