Dalia Sinclair with her husband Paul.

DALIA AYALON SINCLAIR has made history among Jewish women’s groups in Australia by being the first Israeli to become president of a National Council of Jewish Women of Australia (NCJWA) division. Dalia was appointed NCJW’s NSW (New South Wales) president at the organisation’s recent annual meeting, having served the organisation for 25 years. “I am proud to lead an organization that works for Israel, the Jewish and general community in Australia, supporting the needy, promoting social justice, equality for women and transcultural activities,” Dalia told the AJN (Australian Jewish Newspaper).

She stood unopposed, and was  elected unanimously. She said it is appropriate that an Israeli leads the organisation, given the NCJWA’s “commitment to Israel through the many projects we support”. Her primary goal as president will be to increase membership by getting more young and senior women involved.

Born in Israel in 1947, Dalia immigrated with her family to Australia in 1973. She returned to live in Israel in 1992, but relocated to Sydney again in 2002. During some of these years, she was a very active volunteer in Esravision, making many films, ultimately leading the Esravision team and training new volunteers in film making. She is a practising artist and served as Israel officer for the NCWJA, organising its annual Celebrate Israel function. We wish her great success in her new venture.
