SENDING FLOWERS ABROAD

I recently wanted to send flowers to a friend in the UK to commemorate a particular occasion. I found on the Internet that there are many different companies sending plants and flowers to every area in the UK. I picked a company by the name of Bunches.com and sent a beautiful house plant in a ceramic container together with a small box of chocolates which arrived the following day. The response from my friend was that the plant was beautiful and it cost me less than I would have paid to send something similar to a local address here in Israel!

Payments for Medical Insurance

We recently received a notification from the National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi) advising my husband of an increase (yes, believe it or not) in his senior citizen pension.  After noting the sum in round shekels, I casually checked the few figures in the account and to my surprise this is what I found:

Bituach Leumi deducts from the pension they pay him a sum of more than 10% for Medical Insurance. This is in addition to what you are paying to your own Health Fund (Kupat Holim)! 

LEMONS

Some further hints using lemons: fresh lemon juice does not keep long in the refrigerator, but if you freeze it first, it will keep unfrozen for weeks in the fridge. In the freezer, lemon juice can keep for a year and more, so I freeze lots of small bottles and larger containers of the juice and defrost them as needed. Lemon juice is also good for insect bites in particular for mosquito bites. Also it helps when cooking green vegetables to keep the color, in particular with broccoli.

This chain of supermarkets has now come to the Industrial Area of Herzliya Pituach in quiet competition to the Supersol Deal which is one street away. It has opened a large store similar to that in Raanana. The prices appear to be very reasonable. For me its big advantage is that they sell fresh fish at very competitive prices, including a tank for live carp. The price for fresh carp, which they clean and cut as required, including grinding is only NIS 19.99 a kilo.

TOOTHBRUSHES

Old toothbrushes are my best cleaning utensil. A toothbrush gets into all those corners of the aluminum windows, edges of plastic bottles, in fact anything that has ridges, it cleans the lids of the plastic boxes we use as food containers. It gets into the corners of the hinges on the toilet seats, and almost anything you can think of. And of course it costs you nothing - you have finished with it already!

HINT

If you have a jacket, sweater, or the like with buttons sewn on, if you put a dab of colorless nail polish over the thread which holds the button, it will never unravel, and you will never lose a button. Rosalind
