Solly Gelgor was born in Israel in 1928 but grew up in South Africa. He came on aliyah in 1995 with his wife Helga, after retiring as a successful "avant garde" architect.

Solly  has always thought of others rather than himself  and the obvious place to volunteer was the Esra oral tutoring program in Tel Aviv. Solly never tires of visiting his three different schools in Tel Aviv.  He spends  two hours chatting to bagrut students at each of two high schools. At a third school, where the academic level is lower and the pupils difficult, he spends an entire morning assisting in class. Solly's warm personality and obvious love of the "children", coupled with his co-operation with the teachers makes his volunteering a great success.

Solly, with his wife Helga, also attend the annual `coffee and cake` session in Ramle, where Esra volunteers spend 3 - 4 hours with bagrut students.

This year Solly had some medical problems, but was soon fit again, back to school.

We are grateful to Solly and Helga for their support and dedication, real spirits of Esra.
