Last night, October 27, the Rishon branch of ESRA had their first cinema club meeting and they showed the film, "Ida's Dance Club". It took place in the Mifal Hapayis building at Revivim school in East Rishon where there is an auditorium with plenty of comfortable seats and a big screen.
Before the film began everyone mingled and enjoyed various snacks. The cakes were provided, once again, by Yaacov Dreams.
The film itself was very entertaining. It made us laugh and also cry. As the director said afterwards, people do not always show how they live and the problems they face. Dancing allows them to forget, for a while, everything unpleasant.
The director then explained how she came to make the documentary, which was extremely interesting and showed great dedication to her craft in the face of lack of interest by potential backers.
There was then a raffle. The prizes were items made by the Ethiopians and all the winners were delighted with their prizes.
It was a very successful evening and I would like to thank Henrietta Wolffe-David and Janet Kiesari for their hard work in ensuring that it all went smoothly. The Anglo community in Rishon needs more cultural/social meetings and I feel this got us off to a good start.
