TOO MUCH

Are we being so saturated with the beautiful things in life that we get blasé and unappreciative of what we have and become demanding of more?  I receive so many email attachments relating to the wonders of the world, space, animals, plant and sea life that get longer and longer and finally I find I have no patience to sit through the five or six minutes or more demanded.  Very sad.

1 + 1 AND OTHER OFFERS

My experience tells me to check such offers very carefully, in particular where electrical and other expensive goods are concerned.   I recently wanted to buy an air-conditioner and decided to check out the offer of "buy one and get the second at half price" at a well known firm.  Unfortunately, I said from the beginning that I was interested in two air-conditioners. When I decided that for the moment I would prefer to buy only one, to my surprise the prices changed.   The price suddenly jumped to 30% more. The reply of the shop assistant was "Well you are only buying one."   I interpreted this to mean that the shop was overcharging when offering just one.

CHECKING YOUR BILL

Do you check your supermarket bill carefully, preferably as the cashier enters it in the computer, or at least immediately after you receive the bill in your hand?  And if you see in the shop a discount on an item which does not appear on your bill, do you insist on having the bill corrected? My local Mega B'Ir unfortunately is notorious for not removing discount notices in the store and I often have arguments at the cashier's desk, concerning the fact that the price was reduced and there is no date on the notice stating the last date until which the discount was in force.

When I complained to the head office of Mega by letter, they confirmed that if the price of an item is marked at a discount price or if there is a difference between the price on the item or on the shelf and that in their computer, then the customer is entitled to be charged the lower of the two prices. This also accounts for the number of credit notes I hold from Mega – which, by the way, can be used in any of the Mega branches (other than Mega-Bool).  A friend of mine solved her similar problem by using her digital camera on every bargain or discounted item that goes into her shopping cart so that when she gets to the cashier there can be no argument or traipsing back to double-check a price, and also in case someone has removed the notice in the meantime.

ADDRESSES

Have you noticed that nowadays almost all the advertisements you receive via fax and post do not have any postal address, only phone and/or fax addresses?  Rightly or wrongly I put aside such adverts, usually in the garbage, but wonder what it is that these businesses have to cover up?
