Yakirat Ramat HaSharon 2009 – Gitty Glazer
Gitty Glazer was among those honored by the City of Ramat HaSharon for
volunteerism within the community. She received the Yakirat Ramat HaSharon
2009 Award at a gala evening event held on Thursday May 21, 2009 at Yad
LeBanim, Ramat HaSharon. Eligibility for the award is dependent on three factors:
age -70 plus; having resided in Ramat HaSharon for at least the past 20 years; and
volunteerism within the community.
Gitty was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1930. She made aliyah in
1964 together with her husband, Gabriel, and their late daughter, Davida. After
attending Ulpan Ben Yehuda, the family took up residence in Ramat HaSharon in
1966.
Gitty (B.A., B.Ed.) worked in Israel as a teacher of English at the Seminar
Hakibbutzim (1965 – 1974) and at Tichon Zahal (1974 -1995). Upon retirement
in 1995, she became active in Esra and has served as Chairperson of the Esra
Ramat HaSharon Branch since the year 2000. In 2004 she was awarded the Esra
Volunteer Award in recognition of her leadership of Esra Ramat HaSharon.
Esra Ramat HaSharon supports a number of local social welfare projects through
funds raised by an annual concert (the 15th annual concert was held in March).
These include financial aid to needy families recommended by the Ramat HaSharon
Welfare Department; Moadonit Nitzanim (Welfare Department); and Moadon 2000
(a Kiddum Noar Project).
The City of Ramat HaSharon honored Gitty Glazer for her leadership as
Chairperson of Esra Ramat HaSharon and her volunteer English tutoring at
Moadon 2000 since its establishment in January 2000. Through Gitty, Esra
Ramat HaSharon was also honored for its support of local projects and
participation in Shulhan Agol – the City’s roof organization coordinating
activities, projects and programs of the 31 Ramat HaSharon volunteer
organizations.
When asked why she is so active, Gitty replies: “I obtain much satisfaction
from my volunteer activities and, above all, my involvement in the life of the
Ramat HaSharon community and of Medinat Yisrael as a whole”.
