My mother and father-in-law (Rachel & Jack Luck) celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary during shavuot. They have lived in Raanana for some 20 years and now reside at Achuzat Bayit retirement home. The celebration was held at the Shivtei Israel synagogue on shabbat morning. The synagogue was packed and Rabbi Beller devoted his entire "drosha" to the couple. The highlight of the morning service came shortly after as Jack Luck was summoned to the bima. Jack, at 92, refused help as he mounted the bima and in a loud voice recited the blessings. There was not a dry eye in the ladies seating area. The entire family joined them for the simcha. They came from all corners of the globe; some 5 daughters, 12 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Rachel survived the Holocaust and Jack was a POW in Nazi Germany. Having escaped and been recaptured three times, Jack was taken from his barracks and led into the snow and shot (at point blank range) in the back. He lay bleeding in the snow and thus survived the night to be rescued by a German medical attendant. After surgery and hospitalization and five years away from Great Britain he returned to his family. At the time he was greeted by his wife Rachel and 5 year old daughter who had never seen her father. The attached photo shows the excited couple receiving a special greeting from Her Majesty the Queen of England.

We hope that they live to see many more moments of joy and pleasure.
