THEN & NOW

We had a birthday celebration the other day with birthday cake and candles.  At the end of the afternoon I carefully removed the candles and their holders to put aside.  Whereupon one of the guests asked me why I did not throw them out, after all the whole package had cost only a few shekels.  I agreed with the cost but not with the throwing out and showed her that it took less than a minute to clean the chocolate icing from the candle holders and as the candles had barely burned they could be used again and no one would know as the cake is brought in with the candles alight.  Amazement yes, but I am not sure that my explanation of being economical went down well.

EDEN TEVA MARKET

I would like to pay a compliment to this company on their approach to the shopper. Teva Eden Market has opened a new branch in the industrial area of Ramat Hasharon.  Via the post I received their brochure and noted that some of their products which I normally use were carrying a 40% discount if purchased till July 31.  When I arrived at the store and made my purchases I also asked for the CoQ10 which was advertised in their brochure as being in containers of 180 capsules.   I was told that this was an error and it should have read only 60 capsules per bottle.  I told them that I had telephoned the same morning and queried this and had been told that they would stand by what was printed in the brochure.

And to their merit, after a discussion with the manager of the branch they stood by the error and sold me the CoQ10 as advertized and even agreed when I said that I wanted to buy not just three containers of 60 i.e. the 180, but double that amount.

Generally I have found Eden Teva Market to have good and inexpensive products, in particular their unpacked dry goods such as buckwheat, lentils, Quacker oats, rice etc. as well their huge variety of spices.  And here their salespeople are very helpful as regards information.

FAXING

How many of us waste time trying to telephone our doctor, our Kupat Holim, our bank and other  services and offices, only to be left waiting on the line to hear a whole list of available but non-interesting services or sales.   If you have a fax at home then I recommend trying to send a fax to the service you require, even in English.   But do make sure that you give your name, phone and fax number.  If you are contacting your own Kupat Holim or doctor, then add your Identity Card number as well.

LOST & FOUND

A lot of people do not seem to be aware that both DAN & EGGED bus services have lost property offices. I lost a lovely umbrella on a bus years back and sure enough it was handed in to this department.

The police have the same service.   If you hand in a found item, it is registered in your name and if it is not collected you can claim the found item, but this possibility is open to you only after four months and up till 6 months.  The phone number for this police department and further information is 03 680 2135/6.

INTERNET ADVERTISING

Apart from the various Yahoo lists in English, there are some other reasonably easy and interesting free advertising vehicles in Hebrew via the internet.

Agora.co.il:      is similar to freecycyle, i.e. items being given away for free.

Student.co.il:   run, I think, under the auspices of Tel Aviv University. You can transfer this to English as well.

Yad2.co.il:      a free advertising site covering almost everything, but only in Hebrew – a pity.

However they have something useful. For a small sum of NIS49 you can have your advert colored, and every few hours you can upgrade the advert to the beginning of the list.
